The client - A Texas-based super-market chain wanted to revamp their site. Their offerings broadly span across grocery, pharmacy, floral & wines. While some sections had an existing user-base, some where being introduced in select outlets. The retailer was introducing the concept of in-store pick-up and therefore a need for users to browse the catalog based on geographically specified store/ZIP code.
A team of business analysts located on-site with the client would transfer discussion outcomes, business logic & requirements. As a designer located off-shore, my role was to -
- benchmark competitors site - UX offerings
- understand current business logic & propose enhancements
- accommodate new requirements in existing modules
Interface Design
Wireframes were a means to elucidate the textual and verbally articulated business requirements from a user's perspective. The types of users were - cold/unregistered, warm & hot/logged in with empty/filled carts. This led to generation of varied user flows & wireframes helped think through arising exception scenarios too. Also helpful in visualising complex flows like -
- ordering products for multiple addresses in a single transaction
- support for multiple delivery methods
The wireframes served as reference for effort estimation as well as development by engineers & graphic designers
